The Bisbee Pumas will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Benson Bobcats at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th.
Last Tuesday, Bisbee ended up a good deal behind Tombstone and lost 59-41.
Despite their loss, Bisbee saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Yaslin Hernandez, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and two blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Janitzia Avechuco, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Benson put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Santa Rita 62-24 on the road. Given Benson's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Santa Rita is ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kaylei Taylor was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Benson's points. Jordan Rone was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Bisbee's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-11. As for Benson, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-8.
Bisbee came up short against Benson in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 49-41. Can Bisbee avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
