Regis Jesuit is 9-0 against the Eagles since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Regis Jesuit Raiders will play host again and welcome the Heritage Eagles, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Regis Jesuit has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 406 points over their last six contests.
Last Tuesday, Regis Jesuit faced the Huskies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Regis Jesuit sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 66-64 win over the Huskies. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Lucas Dickinson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Damarius Taylor, who scored 19 points.
Meanwhile, Heritage's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. The game between them and Chaparral wasn't particularly close, with Heritage falling 66-48. While losing is never fun, Heritage can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Wolverines are ranked seventh).
Heritage's loss came about despite a quality game from Brayden Chaney, who scored nine points. Trystan Rangel was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Regis Jesuit's win bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Heritage, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Regis Jesuit have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 45.4% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've made 37.8% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Regis Jesuit was able to grind out a solid win over the Eagles in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 63-56. Will Regis Jesuit repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
