The McCool Junction Mustangs will be home for the holidays to greet the Shelby-Rising City Huskies at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McCool Junction will be looking to keep their 13-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Friday, McCool Junction was able to grind out a solid win over Sutton, taking the game 58-47.
McKenna Yates was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with seven steals and five assists. The match was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Shelby Bandt was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Meanwhile, Shelby-Rising City scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Schuyler 53-30.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Shelby-Rising City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Larmon, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Larmon scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taya Pinneo, who scored 22 points.
McCool Junction's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Shelby-Rising City, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: McCool Junction have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Shelby-Rising City, though, as they've been averaging only 27.2 rebounds per game. Given McCool Junction's sizeable advantage in that area, Shelby-Rising City will need to find a way to close that gap.
McCool Junction beat Shelby-Rising City 61-49 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Will McCool Junction repeat their success, or does Shelby-Rising City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
