Viroqua took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hillsboro Tigers, sneaking past 9-8. This was payback for the Blackhawks, who suffered a 4-3 loss the last time these two teams met.
Emily Berra was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over nine innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off 13 hits. Berra was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Emily Hubatch was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-6. Kaylee Bekkum was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
Viroqua does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hillsboro, they will be playing at home against Mauston at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
