Hobart and Hanover Central are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Brickies will welcome the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Hobart is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
While Hobart's victory against Morgan Township wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Brickies had just enough and edged out the Cherokees 17-16 on Friday. The Brickies haven't had any issues with the Cherokees recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Zach Terek made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Hobart let Donio Pimentel and Connor Stafford run wild. Pimentel went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Stafford scored three runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs Stafford has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alex Martin, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Hobart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hanover Central strolled into their game on Saturday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top against Boone Grove by a score of 4-1.
Caiden Verrett was excellent, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Bowen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Hobart pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Hanover Central, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Hanover Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hobart hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for Hanover Central, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Hobart's hitters?
Hobart came up short against Hanover Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Brickies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
