Avery Fricks spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
At the plate, C.B. Aycock let Kaitlyn Lancaster and Nikayla Weaver run wild. Lancaster went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Weaver scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
C.B. Aycock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Johnston). They put the hurt on Fike with a sharp 24-3 victory on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
South Johnston also let their pitcher toss all four innings played and she was also dialed-in: Randi Deese gave up only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. Deese has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Reese Penny and Lily Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Penny got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one double, while Johnson scored four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Olivia Crumpler was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-4.
South Johnston's record is now 5-1. As for C.B. Aycock, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
C.B. Aycock came up short against South Johnston when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can C.B. Aycock avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
