The Floyd Central Highlanders will face off against the Seymour Owls at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Floyd Central 2.5, Seymour 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Seymour will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Floyd Central extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. Everything went the Highlanders' way against Bedford North Lawrence as they made off with a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Emmy Miller spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Breleigh Lockhart was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kiersten Fiedler, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Floyd Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Seymour was able to grind out a solid victory over Charlestown on Monday, taking the game 4-1.
Seymour also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Phoebe Underwood gave up a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. Underwood has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on EmmaKae Sweet, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Warren, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Floyd Central pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Seymour, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Everything went Floyd Central's way against Seymour in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Floyd Central made off with a 12-0 win. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Owls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
