3A District 5 recap November 5, 2013
St. Petersburg Catholic took down Calvary Christian 56-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jack Sheehan threw for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 22 yards in the win.
The Barons led 3A District 5 in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on the Warriors. Sheehan ran for 22 yards during the win.
Calvary Christian's dynamic duo of Jeremy Wood and Wesley Vollmer proved tough for St. Petersburg Catholic to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wood threw for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns and Vollmer had 114 yards receiving. Gage Plentovich helped Calvary Christian's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 20 yards.
Jeff Smith provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Clearwater Central Catholic lost to IMG Academy. He completed 11 passes for 159 yards and also ran for 85 yards. Smith's favorite target this week was CJ Cotman, who caught 3 passes for 55 yards.
He went 11-25 with 2 interceptions.
Thanks to the talents of Sheehan and Jaquan Fuller, Steve Dudley's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Sheehan is tops in the league in passing with 832 yards, while Fuller has rushed for 976 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is the Marauders' Cotman, with 351 yards on 21 catches.
The Barons' Fuller is a mere 24 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 114 carries Fuller has accumulated 976 yard this year.
St. Petersburg Catholic made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,160 from 3,397. The improvement was largely due to a 56-21 victory over Todd Yoder's team last week.
