The Vail Christian Saints's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight defeat. They were outmatched by West Grand at home and fell 70-11. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Vail Christian in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.
Samantha Loredo was Vail Christian's leading scorer, having posted five points.
Leading West Grand to victory were Luci Bruchez and Sage Wheatley. Bruchez dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Wheatley scored 24 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wheatley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Holmes, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.
Vail Christian's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.2 points per game. As for West Grand, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
Vail Christian has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Golddiggers at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Clear Creek comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. West Grand will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on January 25th. Olathe has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
