The Poland Knights will head out to challenge the Lake Region Lakers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Poland is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
On Monday, Poland came up short against Lewiston and fell 7-4.
Poland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Phoebe Paradis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Leksi Langevin also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Lake Region made easy work of Gray-New Gloucester on Friday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The Lakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Haley Hamlin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lake Region let Vylet Robbins and Abbigail Nadeau run wild. Robbins went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Nadeau went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ella Gibbons, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Lake Region is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Poland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Poland's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lake Region, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Poland continue to outrun the ball?
Poland suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Lake Region in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
