Charter Oak has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. Having just played yesterday, they will jump right back in to play the Claremont Wolfpack at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
On Wednesday, Charter Oak came up short against Templeton and fell 55-44. While losing is never fun, Charter Oak can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 824th, while Templeton is ranked 327th).
Meanwhile, Claremont's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight loss. They fell just short of Sage Ridge by a score of 41-39.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Aarion Kennebrew, who scored eight points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Those eight steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Yonael (Yona) Banko, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Claremont were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Charter Oak's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Claremont, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Charter Oak strolled past Claremont when the teams last played on December 5th by a score of 56-42. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Claremont's Hugo Montejo, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Charter Oak still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
