Ilwaco is 9-1 against Ocosta since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Ilwaco Fishermen will head out on the road to take on the Ocosta Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Ilwaco is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Ocosta in Washington (Ilwaco is ranked 92nd, while Ocosta is ranked 323rd).
After a string of eight wins, Ilwaco's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. The match between Ilwaco and Chief Leschi wasn't particularly close, with Ilwaco falling 69-54. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ilwaco has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Ocosta was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 57-51 to Forks.
Despite the defeat, Ocosta had strong showings from Tarren Lewis, who scored 25 points along with five steals, and Kayden Turner, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lewis has scored all season.
Ilwaco's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4. As for Ocosta, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Ilwaco against Ocosta when the teams last played on Saturday as the team secured a 79-38 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ilwaco since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
