Campo Verde is 2-8 against the Colts since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Campo Verde Coyotes will head out on the road to square off against the Casteel Colts at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Campo Verde sitting on four straight wins and the Colts on three.
Last Thursday, Campo Verde sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-44 win over the Black Hawks.
Campo Verde's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Bailey Barnes, who scored 16 points along with two steals, and Kelsey Watts, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Watts has scored at least a third of Campo Verde's points.
Higley typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Casteel proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Knights by a score of 58-46.
Casteel's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Lewis, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lewis has scored at least a third of Casteel's points. Another player making a difference was Jackie Rosado, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Campo Verde has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Casteel's record now sits at 18-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Campo Verde have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Casteel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Campo Verde came up short against the Colts in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 36-30. Can Campo Verde avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
