The Carlisle Bison will venture away from home to take on the Poyen Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Poyen will be up against a hot Carlisle squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Bison's pitchers stepped up to hand Hazen an 11-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Bison have won 12 games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jessa Wiles was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Chloe Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Carlisle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .419 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Poyen got the win against Mount Ida last Friday by a conclusive 13-3. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Indians' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Jadyn Warrick made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Warrick was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Poyen got a massive performance out of Ella Moore, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Macy Riley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Carlisle pushed their record up to 19-10 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Poyen, their record now sits at 4-10.
Carlisle took their victory against Poyen in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bison since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
