Softball Recap: Springfield Has No Trouble Against Norton

Springfield had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Norton on Thursday. The Spartans were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Panthers. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by nine runs or more this season.

Lilli Stokes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Springfield got a massive performance out of Bre Ruggiero, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Peyton Volk also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Springfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Springfield's record now sits at 7-4. As for Norton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield will take on Northwest at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Norton, they will be playing at home against Roosevelt at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
