Mariner has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The South Fort Myers Wolfpack at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Fort Myers took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mariner, who comes in off a win.
Even though Cape Coral scored an imposing 34 points on Friday, Mariner still came out on top. Mariner enjoyed a cozy 50-34 win over Cape Coral.
Mariner can attribute much of their success to Justin Lewis, who threw for 146 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Kelvin Jimenez did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 45 receiving yards.
Mariner's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Cape Coral's QB won't forget Jimenez anytime soon given Jimenez sacked him six times.
Meanwhile, South Fort Myers was the victim of a tough 41-17 loss at the hands of Dunbar on Friday. While losing is never fun, South Fort Myers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Dunbar is ranked 105th).
Despite the defeat, South Fort Myers got a solid performance out of Justin White, who picked up 135 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Mariner's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for South Fort Myers, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
