Basketball Recap: South Granville's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

South Granville waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 74-61 victory over the J.F. Webb Warriors. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Warriors are ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Granville to victory, but perhaps none more so than DJ Hicks, who went 8 for 13 en route to 24 points. Hicks has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was KJ Terry, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 boards.

South Granville was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as J.F. Webb only racked up nine assists.

J.F. Webb's loss came despite strong showings from Daniel Wright and Joshua Barnette. Wright almost dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists, while Barnette went 11 of 19 on his way to 24 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylin Thorpe, who posted 14 points.

South Granville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.1 points per game. As for J.F. Webb, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-6.

South Granville has already played their next contest, a 67-30 win against Louisburg on the 1st. As for J.F. Webb, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Carrboro at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. J.F. Webb knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Carrboro likes a good challenge.
