Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for East Mecklenburg

East Mecklenburg came tearing into Wednesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Mallard Creek Mavericks. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 16-2 win the Mavericks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2016.

Geneva Garvais was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base.

In other batting news, East Mecklenburg let Zya Dunlap and Jahslyn Pruitt run wild. Dunlap went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Pruitt scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Pruitt has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Frida Arroyo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

East Mecklenburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mallard Creek only posted an OBP of .062.

East Mecklenburg now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Mallard Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

East Mecklenburg has already played their next matchup, a 7-6 victory against Butler on the 4th. As for Mallard Creek, they will take on Hopewell at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mavericks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season.
