2A Region 7 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Taylorsville extended the longest winning streak in 2A Region 7 this week by beating Seminary, 32-6. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Taylorsville was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating the Bulldogs 32-6. Matt Caldwell's team came in at 20 in the state poll after placing at number 34 last week.
Anfernee Sulllivan was the best wideout in the league this week as the Tartars defeated Seminary. Sulllivan tallied three receptions for 72 yards. Austin Moffett helped Taylorsville's passing attack out by catching two balls for 42 yards.
Cade Gibson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Enterprise fell to Choctaw Central. The sophomore racked up one sack.
Terrian Page provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Taylorsville bested the Bulldogs. He completed 10 passes for 198 yards and also ran for 68 yards.
Dylan Taylor was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 133 yards as the Bulldogs defeated Seminary. Brady Bilello also contributed to the rushing game with 118 yards on the ground.
Jonnas Spivey put up the best numbers through the air as Bay Springs lost to North Forrest. He finished with 12 completions for 140 yards and one touchdown. Spivey's favorite target this week was Shurone Washington, who caught five passes for 40 yards.
The Bulldogs' Spivey and Brandon Jones have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A Region 7 in both passing and receiving yards. Spivey has thrown for 1085 yards this season, while Jones has 20 catches for 296 yards. Taylor from Enterprise leads the league in rushing with 506 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Taylorsville takes on Clarkdale. As it stands, the Tartars are in first, while the Bulldogs are in fifth.
Taylorsville made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 703 from 1,303. The improvement was the result of 32-6 victory over the Bulldogs last week.
