Estill County has gone 6-1 against Wolfe County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Estill County will welcome Wolfe County at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Estill County 3.8, Wolfe County 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Estill County is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest defeat since May 7, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Rowan County by a score of 3-1. The Engineers haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Estill County saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Fletcher, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wolfe County put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Jackson City with a sharp 16-3 victory. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by nine runs or more this season.
Jayden Molands was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Molands was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chance Fallen, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kris Evans, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Wolfe County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson City only posted an OBP of .263.
Wolfe County's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Estill County, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Estill County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Wolfe County struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Estill County couldn't quite finish off Wolfe County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can Estill County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
