Brownsburg is 6-1 against Ben Davis since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will take on the Giants at 7:30 p.m. Brownsburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Brownsburg is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Roncalli, who was ranked 16th at the time (Brownsburg was ranked 20th). The Bulldogs came out on top against the Royals on Thursday by a score of 9-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Etta Schroering spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, Tatum Hunt was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Neal, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Brownsburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roncalli only posted a batting average of .160.
Meanwhile, Ben Davis hadn't done well against Lawrence North recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Giants narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Wildcats 5-4.
Riley Gilliland was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and one double.
In other batting news, Brooklynn Chambers and Bailee Latimer did most of the damage at the plate: Chambers went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Latimer went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Chambers has posted since back in April.
Ben Davis pushed their record up to 12-12 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Brownsburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.
Ben Davis' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Brownsburg has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Ben Davis, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Brownsburg's sizable advantage in that area, the Giants will need to find a way to close that gap.
Brownsburg took their win against Ben Davis in their previous meeting on May 1st by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
