The Greenfield Knights will face off against the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Greenfield 3.7, Mercyhurst Prep 1.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Greenfield's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when South Range hitters got past them. The Knights came up short against the Raiders on Monday, falling 10-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Knights have suffered since February 28th.
Greenfield saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Clark Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Simon Quinn was another, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Mercyhurst Prep put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They had just enough and edged out Villa Angela-St. Joseph 5-3. Those five runs were actually the fewest the Lakers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Bryce Schueth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Noah Reigel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zack Kruszewski, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Mercyhurst Prep's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Greenfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mercyhurst Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
