Riverton is a perfect 5-0 against Westlake since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Silverwolves will challenge the Thunder at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Riverton has three straight wins, Westlake has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Riverton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Herriman, who was ranked fourth at the time (Riverton was ranked first). The Silverwolves were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Mustangs on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Silverwolves, who have now won 18 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Lexi Huntley made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Huntley was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Leary, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Maggie Hamblin, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Riverton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 11 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Westlake came up short against Cedar Valley on Wednesday, falling 9-3.
Emmri Chuchran was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Addison Conder also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Westlake's loss dropped their record down to 14-10-1. As for Riverton, their record now sits at 22-2.
Riverton's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Silverwolves have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Westlake, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Riverton continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Riverton's way against Westlake in their previous matchup back in April, as Riverton made off with a 10-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Silverwolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
