The Bishop's Knights will face off against the Tri-City Christian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop's 3.7, Tri-City Christian 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Bishop's will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Foothills Christian, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. Bishop's came out on top against Foothills Christian by a score of 8-3 on Monday.
Jessica Yao spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bailey Brightenburg, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Nora Wiese, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Tri-City Christian had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They never let the Stingrays get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Marissa Chronic's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tri-City Christian let Lilly Halverson and Kaedyn Ybarra run wild. Halverson scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Ybarra scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Abby Lisak was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Tri-City Christian's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop's, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2-1 record this season.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bishop's has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .488. However, it's not like Tri-City Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop's suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Tri-City Christian in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
