Lamar Christian and Purvis are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The two teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lamar Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Last Tuesday, Lamar Christian blew past Laurel Christian, posting a 70-30 win on the road. Given Lamar Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Laurel Christian is ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Purvis put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Sacred Heart 67-48.
Jacoby Robinson and Bredren Elenus were among the main playmakers for Purvis as the former scored 17 points along with 3 steals and the latter scored 18 points along with 7 rebounds. The contest was Elenus 's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Vann Brewer was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Lamar Christian's victory lifted them to 7-2 while Laurel Christian's defeat dropped them down to 2-5.
Things could have been worse for Lamar Christian, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-45 loss to Purvis when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Can Lamar Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
