Cathedral Catholic is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Patrick Henry. That's two games in a row now that the Dons have lost by just one run.
Mimi Botticelli spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Anna Janis was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Nia Talatiana, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
Christian typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Point Loma proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 7-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pointers.
Point Loma also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Ella Poulin gave up only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bella Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Annika Isaacson was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Cathedral Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Point Loma, their win bumped their record up to 18-5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Cathedral Catholic hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Point Loma struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Cathedral Catholic took their victory against Point Loma in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 13-4 score. Will the Dons repeat their success, or do the Pointers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
