Franklin Academy is 10-0 against the Sandstoners since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Franklin Academy Huskies will head out on the road to challenge the Potsdam Sandstoners at 7:15 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Gouverneur scored an imposing 55 points on Monday, Franklin Academy still came out on top. Franklin Academy snuck past the Wildcats with a 60-55 win. Given Franklin Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Wildcats are ranked 511th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Potsdam had just enough and edged the Pirates out 56-54 on Saturday.
It was another big night for Ian VanWagner, who went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 2 assists. Brodie Delaney was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Franklin Academy pushed their record up to 12-4 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Potsdam, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Everything went Franklin Academy's way against the Sandstoners when the teams last played back in January as the Huskies made off with a 66-40 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Franklin Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
