TAMPA, Fla. - the Crusaders scored 28 points in the first quarter to secure a big 48-7 victory over Bishop McLaughlin Catholic (Spring Hill, Fla.) on Saturday.
Tampa Catholic scored on a touchdown pass by
Kyle Ploucher to
Justin Motlow, a
Kenny Bryant touchdown run, a Ploucher touchdown pass to Motlow and a touchdown run by
Justin Vertino in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a Ploucher touchdown pass to Motlow in the first quarter, TC was up 35-0 at the half.
The Tampa school grew its lead to 69 points entering the fourth quarter. The Crusaders scored three times in the third, including once on a punt return touchdown by
Bentlee Sanders.
With the win Tampa Catholic extended its winning streak to eight games. Tampa Catholic defeated Lakeland Christian 41-0 last week.
Tampa Catholic's most effective player was
Michael Sarafianos. He kicked six extra points.
Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's only touchdown came on a 2-yard run by R.J. Perciavalle in the third quarter.
The Tampa school had given up an average of 10.3 points prior to the contest. The seven points that the Hurricanes ended with were below their average of 11.0 coming into the game.
In a non-conference game next week Tampa Catholic (8-1) takes on Jesuit, and Bishop McLaughlin Catholic (1-8) will go up against Keswick Christian also in a non-conference game.
