Basketball Recap: Valdosta Falls Despite Big Games from Makiyah Brewton and Lauren Bloom

Valdosta was the 52-48 winner over Dougherty when they last played one another back in November, but their luck changed this time around. The Valdosta Wildcats fell just short of the Dougherty Trojans by a score of 53-51 on Tuesday. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Trojans 15-8 in the first quarter.

Valdosta's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lauren Bloom, who posted 24 points, and Makiyah Brewton, who scored 18 points. The dominant performance gave Bloom a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Meyuana Webb, who put up five points.

Jatiana Chambers continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Dougherty, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 11 steals. Chambers has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was D'Asia M. Simmons, who had nine points and four steals.

Valdosta's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Dougherty, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Valdosta didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-35 loss against Ware County on the 13th. As for Dougherty, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 58-47 defeat against Lee County on the 14th.
