Softball Recap: Northwood Wins Going Away Against Rapides

Northwood's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Rapides Mustangs as they made off with an 11-3 win. Considering the Gators have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kelsey Bennett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits. Those hits were her first of the season.

On the hitting side, Northwood got a massive performance out of Alaya Cornett, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. What's more, Cornett posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Micheala Bolden was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

The victory snapped Northwood's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-10 record. As for Rapides, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-11.

Coming up, Northwood is taking a road trip to take on Glenmora at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Gators are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Rapides, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Martinville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
