The Jefferson Panthers extended their postseason success on Saturday against the Lincoln County Lions. Jefferson slipped by Lincoln County 33-32. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Jefferson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jack Johnson, who rushed for 46 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Jefferson also got help from Hunter Stevens who showed off his sure hands for 95 receiving yards.
Caden Pecora and Tristan Butts certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Pecora rushed for 239 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry, while Butts picked up 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Butts' longest reception was for an incredible 74 yards.
Jefferson's victory was their third straight on the road , which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.7 points per game. As for Lincoln County, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2.
Jefferson will head out on the road to face off against Manhattan at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Manhattan is coming into the match hot, having won their last nine games. Lincoln County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
