They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 68-43 walloping at the hands of Plainfield South. Joliet Catholic was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-13.
Joliet Catholic's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sophia Mihelich, who scored 19 points, and Symone Holman who scored three points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Plainfield South's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tierra Abner led the charge by scoring 14 points along with three steals. Abner hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Destynia Mcgruder, who scored 16 points.
Joliet Catholic has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 13 of their last 15 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-23 record this season. As for Plainfield South, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Joliet Catholic will take on the Roadrunners at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nazareth Academy is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 11 games. As for Plainfield South, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th. That game will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Maziah Shelton and Jazlynn Foster.
