Hammond Morton and Griffith are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Hammond Morton Governors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Griffith Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Monday, Hammond Morton was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 69-63 to Marquette Catholic. The Governors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Michael Woods, who went 9 for 12 on his way to 23 points. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 40.6% three-point shooting accuracy. Dashawn Woods was another key player, putting up 14 points and six assists.
Even though they lost, Hammond Morton was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marquette Catholic only racked up eight assists.
Meanwhile, Griffith didn't have quite enough to beat Munster on Thursday and fell 58-56. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost seven in a row.
Hammond Morton will have to contain Gianni Feaster as he made an impact in Griffith's last game. He posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakhari Mackey, who scored 12 points.
Griffith's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Hammond Morton, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hammond Morton has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Griffith struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Hammond Morton came up short against Griffith in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 75-65. Thankfully for Hammond Morton, Savon Miles (who almost dropped a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
