Softball Recap: Atmore Christian Comes Up Short

Atmore Christian dropped their record down to 6-15 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 16-1 to the West Florida Baptist Academy Conquerors. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Rams couldn't push the score so high this time.

Lizzy Landis was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

As for West Florida Baptist Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-1. Considering they have won 11 matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On West Florida Baptist Academy's side, Riley Scheel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Scheel has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Emery Burke and Aubrey Doyle did most of the damage at the plate: Burke went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Doyle went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those three RBI gave Burke a new career-high. Zoie Griffin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Atmore Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, they will host Lighthouse Private Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Conquerors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Stingrays have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
