Northeastern is 1-9 against Triad since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Northeastern Jets will head out on the road to take on the Triad Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. Northeastern is hoping to put an end to a 14-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Northeastern suffered their biggest defeat since December 16, 2023 on Saturday. They were outmatched by Greeneview at home and fell 47-17. While losing is never fun, Northeastern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 746th, while Greeneview is ranked 275th).
Jaelynn Bobst was Northeastern's leading scorer, having posted five points.
Tyler Pollock held things down on the boards with six rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Meanwhile, Triad was beaten by Mechanicsburg 76-43 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Triad has suffered against Mechanicsburg since January 27, 2021.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Mia LeMay, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Ashlyn McCoy was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds.
Northeastern's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Triad, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Saturday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Northeastern have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Triad, though, as they've been averaging only 33.9 rebounds per game. Given Northeastern's sizeable advantage in that area, Triad will need to find a way to close that gap.
Northeastern was taken down by Triad 45-16 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Northeastern avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
