Basketball Recap: Union Parish Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Union Parish waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They took down the Sterlington Panthers 74-60. The win was all the more spectacular given the Farmers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while the Panthers are ranked 74th).

Despite the loss, Sterlington still got an impressive performance from Cooper Nelson, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 28 points in addition to five boards and four steals. That was a full 46.7% of Sterlington's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Pearson, who put up 12 points and three steals.

Union Parish's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Sterlington, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Parish will venture away from home to take on Ringgold at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Union Parish knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Ringgold likes a good challenge. As for Sterlington, they are taking a road trip to square off against Holy Savior Menard at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Sterlington is facing Holy Savior Menard at the right time seeing as Holy Savior Menard is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
