This season hasn't been kind to the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars, who are still winless after their tenth contest. They lost to Winside at home by a decisive 62-44 margin on Saturday.
Winside got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Austin Nelson out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Nelson pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Offner, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Niobrara/Verdigre bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Winside, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-6.
Niobrara/Verdigre will take on Osmond/Randolph at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Winside and Madison will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Madison focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
