Basketball Recap: Otis-Bison Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Destiny Mitchell and Allie Smith

Otis-Bison lost against Sylvan-Lucas back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Otis-Bison Cougars lost 52-26 to the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 29-9.

Allie Smith and Destiny Mitchell certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Smith posted eight points along with nine boards and six steals, while Mitchell went 5 for 11 on her way to 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most rebounds Mitchell has posted since back in December of 2023.

Even though they lost, Otis-Bison smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Otis-Bison's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Sylvan-Lucas, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3-1.

Otis-Bison will head out on the road to challenge Central Plains on Tuesday. Central Plains' defense has only allowed 27.2 points per game this season, so Otis-Bison's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Sylvan-Lucas, they will be playing at home against Rock Hills on Tuesday. Rock Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.
