It was a good run, but the Walnut Ridge Bobcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a hard 54-39 fall against Greene County Tech. While losing is never fun, Walnut Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Greene County Tech is ranked 30th).
Greene County Tech's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Myiah Butler led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Butler has scored at least 25% of Greene County Tech's points. Weslyn Burnside was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Walnut Ridge's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-7. As for Greene County Tech, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5-1 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Walnut Ridge's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Tuckerman at 4:00 p.m. on January 2nd. Tuckerman is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Greene County Tech won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Pocahontas on December 29, 2023. Pocahontas is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
