Softball Recap: Owego Free Academy Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Owego Free Academy won the last time they faced Chenango Forks and things went their way on Tuesday too. The River Hawks put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the River Hawks, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Carsten Crawford made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Maia Smith was incredible, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Geneva Crawford was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI.

Owego Free Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Owego Free Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Chenango Forks, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Owego Free Academy will take on Seton Catholic Central at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Chenango Forks, they will challenge Windsor Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
