The Piedmont Community Charter Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Piedmont Community Charter has nine straight wins, Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Piedmont Community Charter needed a bit of extra time to put away Greater Cabarrus S. They skirted past the Stallions 10-8.
Sophie Gibson spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Piedmont Community Charter let Evangeline East and Chloe Rae Baker run wild. East scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Baker scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Baker is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bailee Roper, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
They weren't the only one making solid contact: Piedmont Community Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy came up short against Piedmont Community Charter on Tuesday, falling 19-4.
Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Dabbs, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Cecelia ?CC? Aurelio was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Piedmont Community Charter pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12.8 runs. As for Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Piedmont Community Charter has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Piedmont Community Charter's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Piedmont Community Charter took their win against Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy in their previous meeting on Tuesday by a conclusive 19-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
