After both having extra time off, the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack and the Western Wildcats will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Schoolhouse Prep is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Last Wednesday, Schoolhouse Prep came up short against St. Brendan and fell 6-2.
Analys Uriarte was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Schoolhouse Prep saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Francela Verdura, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Even though they lost, Schoolhouse Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.
Western never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Monarch last Thursday. They blew past the Knights 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ali Solo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Solo was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katarina Kuma, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Emma Konieczny also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Western's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Schoolhouse Prep, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
