Colusa is 1-9 against East Nicolaus since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The RedHawks will host the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Colusa's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They came out on top against Truckee by a score of 8-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The victory was some much needed relief for the RedHawks as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Ava Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Garcia was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elli Santana, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Addison Lay, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Colusa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .833. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, East Nicolaus had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past the Bobcats 12-0.
Like Colusa, East Nicolaus also got a great game from a two-way player: Stevie Knight. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Knight has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning two runs and three stolen bases. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Gabby Sotelo was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Richie Farris was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
East Nicolaus' win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Colusa, their victory bumped their record up to 16-5.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Colusa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .499. However, it's not like East Nicolaus struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Colusa suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to East Nicolaus when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the RedHawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
