Platte Valley is 0-10 against Eaton since April of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Broncos will head out on the road to challenge the Reds at 4:00 p.m. Platte Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
It looked like the Kentucky Derby when Platte Valley challenged Fort Morgan on Saturday. The Broncos fell 11-6 to the Mustangs.
Dagan Gomez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Jackson Bauer also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Eaton got the win against Valley on Tuesday by a conclusive 16-3. The Reds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Shane Welle made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Welle was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Austin Edelmon looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Malaki Dalpra, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Everett Edinger was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Eaton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in six consecutive games.
Eaton is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Platte Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Platte Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eaton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
