Basketball Game Preview: ALA - Gilbert North Eagles vs. St. Mary's Knights

The ALA - Gilbert North Eagles will face off against the St. Mary's Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

It was a Battle of the Birds when ALA - Gilbert North took on Apollo back in December of 2024. The stars were shining brightly for ALA - Gilbert North in a 59-41 victory over Apollo. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

ALA - Gilbert North's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kyle Speed, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 boards, and Conner Morris, who made all 6 shots he took for 16 points along with seven boards and six assists. Speed is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last eight games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Viktor Babic, who posted ten points.

ALA - Gilbert North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, St. Mary's had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 76-63 win over the Padres.

St. Mary's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for ALA - Gilbert North, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

ALA - Gilbert North came up short against St. Mary's in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 87-77. Can ALA - Gilbert North avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
