The Williamstown Yellowjackets will stay at home for another week and welcome the Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Williamstown never let their opponents score. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 55-0 win over Doddridge County. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Williamstown just coasted through the last quarter.
Lynken Joy and Maxwell Molessa were among the main playmakers for Williamstown as the former gained 170 total yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 83 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Joy hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games.
Meanwhile, Wheeling Central Catholic entered their tilt with Harbor Creek with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Wheeling Central Catholic simply couldn't be stopped two weeks ago as they easily beat Harbor Creek 49-20 on the road. Given Wheeling Central Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps's football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 42nd in West Virginia, while Harbor Creek is ranked 390th in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Braden Mcwreath continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 194 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also picking up 40 receiving yards. Mcwreath really tore up the turf during one magnificent 89-yard run. Jj White was another key contributor, picking up 161 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Williamstown's win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-2 Tyler and 7-4 Weir (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.3% over those games). As for Wheeling Central Catholic, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Williamstown has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 425.1 total yards per game. However, it's not like Wheeling Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 381.8 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Williamstown ended up a good deal behind Wheeling Central Catholic when the teams last played back in October of 2020, losing 33-14. Will Williamstown have more luck at home instead of on the road?
