The South Spencer Rebels are taking a road trip to take on the Evansville Harrison Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Spencer is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, South Spencer turned things around against Pike Central on Wednesday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Chargers.
Kaylee Schmitt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, South Spencer let Ruthee Clark and Drema Howe run wild. Clark went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Howe got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Howe a new career-high. Abby Raaf was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Evansville Central hit Evansville Harrison with a five-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors came up short against the Bears, falling 12-5. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Evansville Harrison saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Whitaker, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.
Evansville Harrison's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for South Spencer, their record is now 4-5.
South Spencer's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Rebels have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Evansville Harrison, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will South Spencer continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went South Spencer's way against Evansville Harrison in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as South Spencer made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
