The Doherty Spartans's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. One thing working in Doherty's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven games.
Doherty scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They strolled past Rampart with points to spare, taking the game 94-75. Given Doherty's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Rampart is ranked 148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Doherty got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was James Pulliam out in front who scored 30 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Pulliam posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Mack, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Fountain-Fort Carson pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 66-55 to Falcon.
Doherty is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Fountain-Fort Carson, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Doherty won a match that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in February of 2023, slipping by Fountain-Fort Carson 54-53. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Fountain-Fort Carson's Antonio Joseph Martinez, who scored 17 points. Now that he won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for Doherty to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
