Seton Hall Prep is 6-1 against Old Bridge since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Pirates are taking a road trip to square off against the Knights at 11:00 a.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Seton Hall Prep sitting on seven straight wins and Old Bridge on four.
Seton Hall Prep had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Columbia on Thursday. The Pirates never let the Cougars get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by eight runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Kaden Frei, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of William Mahala, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Old Bridge's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They blew past Monroe Township 6-0.
Justin Hascup made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Old Bridge let John Sorrano and Matt Chin run wild. Sorrano went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Chin went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Sorrano a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anthony Jannucci, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Seton Hall Prep's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Old Bridge, their record now sits at 8-6.
Seton Hall Prep was able to grind out a solid win over Old Bridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
