The Bishop Rosecrans Bishops will venture away from home to challenge the Shadyside Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bishop Rosecrans is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Bishop Rosecrans had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Tuscarawas Central Catholic on Monday. The Bishops' pitchers stepped up to hand the Saints a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Bishops have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Hayden Perdue and Coen Grandstaff made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Perdue struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Grandstaff pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Perdue has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Perdue earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base, while Grandstaff went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Jacobie Balo was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Haiden Omen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Bishop Rosecrans always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Shadyside faced off against Buckeye Local on Thursday. The Tigers fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Shadyside saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Micker, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Bishop Rosecrans has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Shadyside, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Shadyside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop Rosecrans has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. It's a different story for Shadyside, though, as they've only averaged .315. Will they be able to contain Bishop Rosecrans' hitters?
